Yes, I know it seems absurd to list the 10 Best Music Videos Of All Time simply because there are so many amazing music videos that are all good for different reasons. And I’m only human, so it’s possible that I like a video simply because I saw it at a special time in my life, or maybe for no reason at all. But the other night when my friend who happens to be a film director was showing me some new music videos that he liked a lot, I couldn’t help but go back through some of my favorites and pay homage to them. Besides, watching music videos is fun. I’m going to do this semi-chronologically, so I’ll start with stuff that’s more recent and move back from there. Lets do this!
I wonder how many of these music videos Buy YouTube Views when they first launch?
M.I.A – Bad Girls
Lets kick things off by watching M.I.A do her thing while standing on the side of a moving car. It just makes me really happy.
Ramona Falls – I Say Fever
This has to be one of the most visually stunning videos I’ve seen in a long time. The animation is brilliantly creative, and lends itself to the music flawlessly. Besides, You have to give anyone points for going with a surrealist western theme.
Mikhael Paskalev – I Spy
Besides the fact that this guy is really good at dancing around a room in his underwear and smashing stuff, this video makes perfect use of having certain elements in slow motion while other continue on as usual. I wish I could do that in real life. I’d never stop throwing things.
Bjork – All Is Full Of Love
If there is one thing in life that I am sure of, it’s that Bjork is the most beautiful robot ever. Normally two robots with Bjork faces making out would be terribly unsettling, and I guess it still is… but for this song, it’s SO right.
Radiohead – No Surprises
You might argue that perfectly executing the quintessential depiction of crushing anxiety should not get a video in the list of 10 Best Music Videos OF All Time… but you’d be wrong.
Method Man & Redman – Da Rockwilder
I love how this video starts with Red and Meth getting ripped out of a future pod by flying chains. I love the synchronized dancing they fall into every so often. I love how weirdly short it is. I dub their video style “Dirty Future Fantasy.”
Aphex Twin – Come To Daddy
This is the scariest video ever. As a young boy, this video traumatized me, and forever burned an image into my brain of scary creatures coming out of TV’s. The Ring ain’t got nothing on this.
OutKast – B.O.B
Why are the colors reminiscent of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory? Why is there a random monkey? Because this video rules.
Fatboy Slim – Weapon Of Choice
Christopher Walken dances around an empty hotel. Enough said.
Chris Isaak – wicked Game
While on my quest for the 10 Best Music Videos Of All Time, I came to realize that this video is the best ever made. What’s more, no one will never make a video in all of time that is better than this one. Sultry black & white island footage of beautiful poeple? Chris Isaak singing in the sky? Best song/video combo imaginable. BTW, some of you may be too young to watch this video, due to the fact that it’s super hot 🙂
