6 Best Free WordPress Themes With Responsive Design in 2014

Sure your website looks good on your computer, but does it looks good on a phone? How about a tablet? Designing a website that looks good across all sizes is a huge challenge, but as phones, tablets and other devices get more popular, it’s more important than ever to make sure your site looks just as good on an iPad as it does on a Galaxy.  Luckily, WordPress has you covered. There are many free and paid themes out there that dynamically respond to different sized browsing experiences . Below are what I think to be the 6 Best Free WordPress Themes With Responsive Design in 2014 thus far, and a few really good premium responsive themes as well. To see what I mean by ‘responsive’, go to the demo of the theme and then resize your browser to be full-screen, then resize the window to make it smaller and you will see the theme rearranging itself to fit the size of the window.

Fizz

This responsive them feels huge and expansive when on a big screen, like an external monitor. When you shrink it down to tablet or phone size, the look, feel, and organization are still impeccable. In terms of responsive size flexibility, this does a great job.

InterStellar

A good looking free portfolio theme that won’t butcher your work on a tablet. This site has decent response for various tablet sizes, but gets a little cropped on a small phone scale. However, you shouldn’t be looking at an art portfolio website on a phone anyway.

Origin

Classic blogging theme that responds fairly well in all sizes. It includes tons of cool features like layouts, fonts, fully responsive YouTube and Vimeo players and more.

Play Book

Although less elegant than Origin, this responsive blogging theme has a more masculine feel and has even better size response. It sports great responsive photo cropping as well, so your pics won’t get cropped or cut off at a smaller size.

 Time

Super clean with a full-width home page slider that stays full-width at any size. If you’re looking for an elegant blog or portfolio platform, this is a good choice.

Clippy

Your classic magazine style theme with lots of boxes that reorder themselves to fit different sized screens.

As always, if you’re feeling like spending a little bit of money for a really good theme, I’ve got to recommend some Elegant Themes.

Fable

This theme does full-width style really well. On a big screen, it’s expansive and wonderful, with lots of custom areas for posts, videos, quotes photos and more. It comes with all the Elegant Theme bells and whistles like easy back-end customizations, short codes and more. Oh yeah, and it looks good at different sizes as well.

Divi
